Business Day @logineer presented IT for logisticians

Two and a half years after the launch of logineer, it was time to invite more than 40 customers and our technology partners to Hamburg. The focus was on what we are particularly good at: IT solutions for freight forwarding companies. There were keynotes, info points and a panel - which were well received by the guests. They were also pleased with the pleasant setting for personal dialogue.

Supply chains are becoming ever more demanding and complex, and the implementation of the latest IT solutions is at the top of the agenda for many freight forwarding companies.

But which IT services should logistics companies definitely use? What role do artificial intelligence and cloud platforms play and how can cyber security be organised? Questions like these were the focus of our Business Day @logineer, which was attended by an exclusive group of IT managers and logistics executives on 10 September 2024 in Hamburg's Speicherstadt warehouse district.

Insights into IT for logistics

The keynote speeches by renowned guest speakers and logineer managers focused on the hottest topics currently being discussed in connection with IT and logistics:

  • Use of artificial intelligence: Thomas Martinsen, Microsoft Regional Director & AI MVP, presented the benefits of MS Copilot for logistics.
  • Efficient financial processes: Alina Saienko, SAP Solution Advisor for S/4HANA & Finance, explained the solutions SAP offers for finance and the role played by cloud and AI technologies.
  • Automation in logistics: Heiko Müller, Business Development Executive at WiseTech Global, spoke about increasing efficiency with the help of transport management systems (TMS).
  • Cyber security: Timo Luttmann, Department Manager Infrastructure at logineer, reported on the human factor and the possibilities of sensitising employees to the dangers of cyber attacks.

IT solutions and holistic IT strategy

Our panel discussion focussed on the fundamental question of how much IT outsourcing makes sense for logistics companies. Our Managing Directors Christian Lorey and Pascal Eggert discussed this with Conrad Franchi, Chief Digital Officer (CDO) of our customer Röhlig Logistics.

Röhlig, a long-established freight forwarder headquartered in Bremen, which is successful in sea and air freight worldwide, was earlier than many others in the industry to embrace digitalisation and now uses logineer's services on a large scale. Some of logineer's strengths result from the extensive support provided to Röhlig: that we can cover all IT aspects of a globally active freight forwarder, that we can set up digital workplaces worldwide and that we can also advise on a holistic IT strategy.

The details of our services were presented at a small in-house exhibition that rounded off the Business Day. Our IT specialists presented our offerings for IT infrastructure & workplace, financial accounting, e-invoicing, cyber security and industry-specific applications such as warehouse management systems and TMS

How can data flow smoothly between different applications, e.g. between TMS and SAP? logineer offers suitable interfaces for this. Picture: © q.beyond logineer GmbH.

logineer presents new IT interface between TMS and SAP S/4HANA

We are particularly pleased that we were able to launch a new result of our in-house software development during the Business Day: a brand-new IT interface between transport management systems and the state-of-the-art SAP ERP S/4HANA.

Based on many years of experience from customer projects , the logineer SAP S/4HANA template was developed to support financial accounting and controlling processes in the freight forwarding and logistics industry. Thorsten Miehe, Department Manager SAP at logineer, and our Managing Director Christian Lorey explained what it does: For example, it enables logistics companies to access all financial data in real time via their TMS, thereby speeding up decision-making and ultimately significantly improving operational efficiency. A particular advantage is the global applicability of the template for all subsidiaries of a transport company.

Networking with technology experts and market companions

But there was more than keynotes, panels and info points: the beautiful rooms of the "Speicherboden" provided a suitable and maritime setting for personal dialogue - among market players as well as with logineer executives and our technology partners.

The feedback from our guests shows us that such opportunities are highly valued in the age of daily video conferencing. We are delighted that we were able to provide a platform for this with our Business Day and thus contribute to the exchange of different perspectives and impressions. When planning our future events, this point will once again be at the top of our list of priorities!
