Focus on TMS: logineer at DLK 2023

The Hamburg-based IT service provider logineer once again took the opportunity to present itself at this year's International Supply Chain Conference (DLK). As part of the HANSE LOUNGE of the Logistics Initiative Hamburg, logineer presented its solutions for the complete digital logistics workplace and demonstrated its expertise in transport management systems (TMS).

The Bundesvereinigung Logistik (BVL) organised its 40th three-day congress under the motto "Think Networks", inviting visitors to attend a blend of specialist presentations, workshops, a trade fair and an evening get-together. The diverse and varied programme featured 121 exhibitors and 148 speakers. More than 2,000 professionals and executives took part in the industry get-together in Berlin in October.

Main topics: digitalisation and resilience

The DLK agenda covered all the major issues currently affecting the industry, such as the ever-present digitalisation, the shortage of skilled labour, sustainability and supply chain resilience.

logineer was represented at the congress by managing directors Pascal Eggert and Christian Lorey, consultant Dennis Basan, sales manager Farzan Said and solutions manager Bianca Heitmann. For them, it is clear that a truly comprehensive digital transformation will pay dividends in all of these areas by improving efficiency, saving resources and ensuring IT security.

Managing Director Pascal Eggert explains: "We recommend our customers to seamlessly digitalise both their IT landscapes and their logistics processes, backed up with comprehensive cyber security measures." logineer offers all the necessary IT solutions for digital transformation from which freight forwarders can build their complete digital logistics workplace.

Resilience is primarily a matter of IT security. This is emphasised by Christian Lorey: "A strategic approach to cyber security and the development of an overall concept are essential. Various measures should be taken for protection: controlling access authorisations, raising employee awareness and training, keeping IT components up to date at all times. There are also specialised IT solutions that help in the search for security vulnerabilities."

Strong interest in the transport management system

When it comes to the digitalisation of operational logistics processes, the Transport Management System (TMS) is the centrepiece. However, with so many different options and solutions on offer, many freight forwarders wonder what the right TMS for them should look like. This has also been a topic of discussion at DLK.

logineer has extensive expertise in the field of TMS: The IT service provider provides logistics companies with expert advice on this important industry software and also offers support with implementation and operation. logineer consultant Dennis Basan gave a presentation at the DLK entitled "Why TMS? 884 good reasons for a standard".

A standardised TMS such as CargoWise is particularly good at improving process efficiency, he argued in his presentation. His approach: Medium-sized forwarders, in particular, should obtain all components of the transport management system from a single source, if possible, in order to ensure transparency at a manageable cost and to easily get to grips with the complexity of transport transactions.

Farzan Said also answered numerous questions about the CargoWise transport management system, for which logineer is a service partner. The Sales Manager is certain of one thing: "The big advantage of CargoWise is its immense functionality. Customers can choose from a large number of modules and tailor the solution to their individual needs."

logineer used DLK as a networking opportunity

logineer also took advantage of the congress' many opportunities for networking within the industry. "The motto of the congress, 'Think Networks', was precisely right," says Solutions Manager Bianca Heitmann.

As a partner of the Logistics Initiative Hamburg (LIHH), logineer was able to attend the Hamburg Senate Reception at the Hamburg Federal State Representation in Berlin – and used this opportunity to meet important players in the industry. At this event, the topic of supply chain resilience was once again the centre of attention. Professor Bjorn Stevens, Managing Director of the MPI for Meteorology, discussed this in the context of extreme weather events.

In addition, the LIHH offered its partner companies in Hamburg the opportunity to use the HANSE LOUNGE for meetings and discussions. "We felt very much at home there and would also like to take part in next year's BVL Congress with the LIHH," says Bianca Heitmann.

However, at present it is still unclear what this will look like next year. That is because the International Supply Chain Conference (DLK) will become BVL Supply Chain CX Under a new name and with a changed concept, the trade fair and congress is set to become larger, more digital, more international and more diverse. For this new congress from 23 to 25 October 2024, the BVL is expecting more than 5,000 participants and will be moving to the Estrel Congress Center in Berlin.
