logineer gives technology a second life with IT donations

What to do with hardware that is no longer needed? logineer found an enthusiastic recipient for old devices at the Hamburg-based aid organisation Firefighter Worldwide. Its initiator, Reinhard Paulsen, is now arranging an entire load of fully functional PCs and docking stations donated by logineer to be sent to Tanzania for use in hospitals and schools. We proudly see this as a contribution to greater sustainability!

Technology connects us, potentially changing lives in a positive way, especially when put to an unquestionably good cause. We are therefore delighted to be able to donate our old devices to a really good cause. This IT donation from logineer is impressive: around 170 MicroPCs and over 60 docking stations for notebooks worth more than 32,000 euros.

Great partnerships

We are being supported in our donation by Reinhard Paulsen: the retired shipbuilding engineer and industrial teacher worked with the Hamburg Volunteer Fire Brigade for decades, organising youth exchanges all over the world. This led him to his own aid organisation, Firefighter Worldwide, which collects decommissioned firefighting equipment and IT devices and donates them to Hamburg's partner cities Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and León (Nicaragua). Reinhard Paulsen has been nominated for the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for his outstanding social commitment.

But how do you find such a great partner? logineer is well connected and that helped us in this situation: Janine Elter from the LOG-IT Club of the Kompetenznetz Logistik.NRW, of which logineer has been a member for a year, gave us the tip to enquire at Labdoo. Labdoo is an NGO that also collects IT donations and works together with Reinhard Paulsen. They put us in touch with the man from Hamburg, Reinhard Paulsen.

Together for a good cause

For logineer, it was then a case of getting everything ready for dispatch. To do this, we first had to "wipe" the hard drives of the devices, i.e. thoroughly remove old data. Thankfully, my colleague Franziska Mohr, Head of the Service Delivery Team at logineer, tended to this together with her colleagues. She also made sure that the hardware was packed safely for the long journey.

On 26 March, all systems were go: Reinhard Paulsen arrived at our company site in Flughafenstraße with a minibus - including driver – made available by the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund Hamburg, with whom he also often works.

What a great and uncomplicated cooperative effort! On behalf of logineer, I would like to thank all those involved very much.

Action for social and ecological sustainability

We are delighted to be able to make a contribution, however small, through this social initiative, enabling more resources to be available for digitalisation in the education and healthcare sectors in Tanzania.

What's more, the continued use of our devices extends their utilisation phase and life cycles - a key aspect of the circular economy: less new hardware is produced. Less production means reduced consumption of energy and resources and less impact on the environment. In addition, passing on used hardware helps to reduce electronic waste. We are very proud that we can set an example for more sustainability in this way.
